20ft Shipping Container Office for Sale — Converted Garden Office & Home Office | Canada/USUK Delivery
A Premium Container Office Conversion, Ready to Work From
Whether you’re looking to escape the distractions of the main house, create a dedicated creative space at the bottom of your garden, or establish a professional home office that doesn’t compromise on quality — our 20ft shipping container office is one of the most popular and well-specified container conversions we offer, Container Home Office
Built in-house by our specialist conversion team, this is not a budget flat-pack cabin or a hastily modified container. Every unit is thoughtfully designed, properly insulated, fully wired, and finished to a standard that rivals a permanent brick-and-mortar office extension — at a fraction of the cost and with none of the planning headaches.
This 20ft container office is available for sale with delivery throughout the UK.
What Is a Shipping Container Office?
A shipping container office is exactly what it sounds like — a standard steel shipping container that has been professionally converted into a fully functional, insulated, and electrically fitted workspace. The structural integrity of a one-trip shipping container makes it one of the most robust foundations you can build a garden office from. These containers are designed to carry tens of thousands of kilograms across oceans in all weather conditions. As a garden office, they’re virtually indestructible.
Our in-house conversion team takes that industrial-grade structure and transforms it into a bright, comfortable, well-insulated office space that you can use year-round — whether that’s for focused remote working, running a small business from home, pursuing creative hobbies, or simply having a quiet space away from the main house.
The Base Unit — One-Trip 20ft x 8ft Shipping Container
Every conversion starts with a one-trip shipping container — meaning it has completed a single journey from its country of manufacture before arriving with us. One-trip containers are as close to new as you can get in the shipping container world. They show minimal wear, have no significant dents or rust, retain full structural integrity, and provide the ideal clean canvas for a high-quality conversion.
The standard dimensions of a 20ft x 8ft container give you a usable internal footprint of approximately 14.5 square metres before conversion — comfortable enough for a dedicated home office setup with desk space, storage, and room to move around freely. For most remote workers, freelancers, and small business owners, this is exactly the right size.
Full-Height Double Glazed Sliding Patio Doors
One of the most striking features of this conversion is the wall of glass that replaces one entire long side of the container.
The full long wall — running the entire 20ft length of the unit — has been professionally removed and replaced with full-height double glazed sliding patio doors. This is not a token window. This is a floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall glazed opening that completely transforms the feel of the space from the inside. The result is a garden office that feels genuinely open, airy, and connected to its surroundings rather than a metal box with a porthole cut into the side.
The sliding door configuration means you can fully open the space on warmer days, blurring the boundary between your office and your garden — or keep it fully closed and insulated through autumn and winter. The double glazing ensures excellent thermal retention and sound insulation regardless of the season.
Integral venetian blinds are fitted within the double-glazed units themselves — meaning the blinds sit between the two panes of glass. This is a significant practical advantage. There are no external blind cords to tangle, no fabric to collect dust, and no mechanism exposed to the elements. To adjust your light levels, simply tilt or raise the blind using the discreet integrated control. Clean, minimal, and maintenance-free.
Insulation — Built for Year-Round Comfort
A garden office is only as useful as its usability in winter. A poorly insulated container will be freezing from October to March and a greenhouse from June to August — neither of which makes for a productive working environment.
We’ve specified the insulation on this conversion to deliver genuine year-round comfort:
Walls: Fitted studwork lined with 50mm Dritherm Earthwool insulation — a high-performance, non-combustible mineral wool product known for its excellent thermal and acoustic properties. It resists moisture, doesn’t settle over time, and maintains its insulation values throughout the life of the building.
Ceiling: 100mm thick Dritherm loft insulation — double the wall thickness, which is appropriate given that the roof is the primary heat loss and heat gain surface in a steel container. This level of ceiling insulation is critical for keeping the space comfortable in both winter and summer.
Boarding: The insulated studwork is then boarded out with 12.5mm plasterboard throughout, bringing the interior finish from a raw industrial container to a blank canvas ready for final decoration.
The interior is ready to be skimmed or finished depending on your preference. If you want a smooth, jointless plastered wall finish — the kind you’d expect in a high-end office or modern extension — the boards are prepped and ready for a plasterer. Alternatively, if you prefer to tape, fill, and paint yourself for a faster, more cost-effective finish, that option is equally straightforward.
Electrical Specification — High-Spec and Clean-Lined
The electrical fit-out on this unit reflects the same attention to detail as the rest of the conversion. Rather than surface-mounted conduit and clunky back boxes — which would undermine the clean aesthetic of a freshly plastered interior — all wiring is flush fitted and routed within the studwork before boarding. The result is an office interior where the electrics are invisible until you need them, consistent with the high-specification finish throughout.
The electrical package includes:
- 3 x LED strip lights — recessed or surface-mounted LED strips providing bright, even illumination across the full length of the office without creating dark corners or harsh shadows
- 4 x double 13A sockets — giving you 8 socket outlets in total for computers, monitors, printers, chargers, desk lamps, and general equipment
- 2 x 32A isolators on the rear wall — pre-wired and positioned specifically for air conditioning units, should you wish to add a split-system or portable AC unit now or in the future
This electrical package is suitable for the majority of home office and hobby use cases straight out of the box. For users with higher power demands — multiple monitors, servers, specialist equipment — we can discuss enhanced electrical specifications as part of a customisation.
Please note: The unit requires connection to your mains electrical supply by a qualified electrician upon delivery and placement. The internal wiring is complete; your electrician simply needs to make the connection to your supply at the isolator.
Finish and Colour — RAL6007 Bottle Green as Standard
This container office is finished in RAL 6007 (Bottle Green) — a deep, earthy green that sits beautifully in garden settings and blends naturally with planting, hedging, and lawn surroundings. It’s a popular choice for a reason: it looks at home in a garden rather than standing out like an industrial unit in a residential setting.
If green isn’t right for your space, we can respray to any standard RAL colour at an additional cost. Whether you want to match your existing outbuildings, complement your house colour, or simply prefer something different — anthracite grey, charcoal, cream, slate blue, or any other RAL shade — we’ll quote you accordingly.
Colour changes are handled before delivery, so your unit arrives already finished in the colour of your choice.
Benefits at a Glance
Superior aesthetic finish Flush-mounted electrics, smooth plasterboard boarding, and a clean interior ready for a jointless skim finish give this container office a level of interior quality that stands up to any comparison with traditional garden rooms or office extensions.
Integrated blinds — simple and low maintenance The venetian blinds sit within the glazing unit, protected from dust, rain, and damage. No cords trailing outside, no external mechanisms to maintain. Just simple, reliable light control at the touch of a finger.
Exceptional natural light The full-length glazed wall transforms what could be a dark steel box into one of the brightest, most pleasant working environments you can create in a garden setting. Natural light has a measurable positive effect on focus, mood, and productivity — and this office delivers it in abundance.
Genuinely versatile Equally well suited as a professional home office, a creative studio, a hobby room, a music room, a meditation space, a home gym, or a quiet retreat. The clean, neutral interior works for any use case.
Built to last — and then some Shipping containers are engineered to withstand the most demanding conditions on earth. As a garden office, this unit will outlast any timber cabin, many brick structures, and most traditional garden buildings. With minimal maintenance — primarily keeping the exterior paintwork in good condition — it will perform for decades.
UK-wide delivery We deliver and position throughout the UK. Our delivery team will place the unit on your prepared base using a specialist vehicle, leaving you ready for your electrician to make the final connection.
